Bourbon Capital of the WorldTM – Nelson County
The Deatsville Inn is located in Deatsville, about 10 miles northwest of Bardstown. The Deatsville/Samuels area contains many natural springs which produce the pure limestone water needed to make fine bourbon. The area was the original site of the T. W. Samuels Distillery, a predecessor of Maker’s Mark.
Other famous distilleries based in or near Nelson County are Heaven Hill, Barton Brands, Jim Beam, Wild Turkey, Woodford Reserve, and Four Roses. Many offer tours and other activities. Every September, Bardstown hosts the week-long Kentucky Bourbon Festival. All year long, visitors can enjoy the Kentucky Bourbon Trail.
